A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MYSELF. . .

Hi there human, I see fate has brought you to my website. Firstly thank you for stopping by! My name is Mr. English, although my muggle name is Emile Engels.

I'm an Illustrator and Graphic Designer, living and working in the city of Cape Town, South Africa.

I grew up with a wild imagination, I could never sit still and coincidentally I got, “Is easily distracted and distracts others” on every report card of mine since I was 6 years old. I mean, that’s got to count for something, right?

Oddly enough, my passion for drawing only started when I moved to Cape Town in 2015. Moving here was a weird adjustment, making art and drawing became a coping mechanism that I fell in love with. Soon I went from being a self-taught artist, to studying Graphic Design at Ruth Prowse School of Art in Woodstock, Cape Town to owning my own graphic design business. 

I consider myself a well rounded individual when it comes to graphic design, in my years of experience, I have worked with larger insurance like companies as well as working for small start up businesses. I have experience in logo design, corporate identities, small and large format print design, layout design, motion graphics, video editing and so much more. I definitely know my way around Adobe's Creative Suite.

A lot of my illustrative work is influenced by pop culture and street art as well as childhood nostalgia. I make use of visual elements from my own childhood such as incorporating imagery or styles from the various forms of media and pop culture I absorbed while growing up. I believe that a person’s core creativity is linked to their childhood and that it is important to tap into that raw fun creative side of a person’s childhood. 

I’m always up for a challenge, and I love learning new things that help me grow as a person.
